Research: I am interested in adding phylogenetic analyses to geological evidence in order to understand episodes of Earth history where organisms have profoundly and lastingly influenced the physical environment in which they live. Episodes that interest me most include the advent of oxygenic photosynthesis and its reverberations, the appearance of animals in the aftermath of Cryogenian glaciations, and the development of different types of methanogenesis.
